PASTOR'S PAGE (For Sunday, February 8th) We are all familiar with the concept of "IQ." What's your IQ, we might ask someone. I recently heard of a man who has an IQ well over 140. That's pretty good. I'm not going to confess what mine is. I'll just tell you this much: it's not over 140. Of course, "IQ" tests are used to measure a person's "intelligence quotient." It is designed to be a way to see how intelligent you are in different areas. And, I suppose, it is legitimate to conduct such tests. But what I would like to ask you today is, "What's your 'JQ'?" What? JQ? What in the world is that? It stands for "Joy Quotient." What level of joy do you have in your life, especially if you are a Christian? In these troubled times in which we live, we may be more willing to say that our "JQ" isn't registering very high. We may not be having much joy in our Christian experience. But that is not at all the way God wants His children to live! For that reason, we are beginning a new series of studies on Sunday morning based on the New Testament book of Philippians. We are entitling it, "The Joy Life," because that's exactly what the book of Philippians is all about. It's about JOY, pure, unadulterated joy. We believe that the Bible is sufficient for all of our needs. And if that affirmation is true, then we can find the answers to our joylessness in the pages of the Word of God. And that's what we find in Philippians. I don't want to say much else, however. There's nothing as bad as a preacher stealing his own thunder. Just come this Sunday and begin the adventure of studying Philippians with us as we discover from God's Word what real joy is and how it can teach us what the "Joy Life" really is! God Bless, and we'll see you this Sunday! Pastor Jeff |
